Slack

Post held releases, approvals and results to a Slack channel, with buttons that act.

Connect

  1. In Stableship open Settings, then Connections, and choose Connect on the Slack card.
  2. Slack asks which channel Stableship should post in. Pick one and approve.

To post in more channels, choose Add a channel. If the channel is archived or the app is removed from Slack, Stableship stops posting there and asks you to connect again.

What posts

Your app's notification settings decide which of these post:

  • A release is held: a check found something that blocks shipping.
  • A deploy is waiting for its check, or went out before the check finished.
  • An approval is waiting, for example a request to ship anyway or change a rule.
  • An audit finished, or any check finished.
  • A daily or weekly summary of what was checked, held and fixed. Days with nothing to report post nothing.

Quiet hours delay the summary only. A held release is posted straight away.

Buttons that act

Messages that need a decision carry buttons to approve, reject or ship anyway. A press acts as the person who pressed it, with the same approver rules as the app, and the message gets a reply saying who decided.

The first time you press a button, Stableship may need to match your Slack account to your Stableship account. It does that by email when it can; otherwise Slack shows you a one-time link to connect them, and the next press works.

Ship anyway always asks for a reason, so its button opens a short page in Stableship to give one.

Disconnect

Choose Disconnect next to the channel in Settings, then Connections.
